Nolan Ryan played for the California Angels for eight seasons, from ’72 to ’79. During that time, he threw 2 no-hitters and came close a number of other times. He was selected to the All-Star team in each of his first 6 seasons with the Angels, was named the game's MVP in 1979. Ryan was a strikeout machine during his time with the Angels, leading the league in strikeouts seven times and setting numerous records. He struck out a career-high 383 batters in ’73, which is still the modern-day record for a single season. This led to his 1st Cy Young Award after going 21-16 with a 2.87 ERA and leading the league in strikeouts.
