While some of us remember Fred Dryer as a 6’6”, 240 pound dominant defensive end, most of the people watching TV in the 70s and 80s might remember him for another reason. Following his retirement from football, Dryer pursued a successful acting career. He appeared in numerous television shows and films, gaining recognition for his roles. One of his most notable roles was the lead character, Detective Hunter, in the popular television series "Hunter" which aired from 1984 to 1991. Dryer's portrayal of Detective Rick Hunter earned him a significant fan base and established him as a respected actor. Additionally, he made guest appearances on various television shows, appearing in popular series such as "Cheers," "Murder, She Wrote," "The A-Team," and "NCIS." Dryer also ventured into hosting and commentary. He hosted his own late-night talk show called "The Late Late Show with Fred Dryer" from 1999 to 2001 and also provided commentary and analysis for football games, utilizing his experience as a former player to provide insights and expertise. He worked as an analyst for the NFL Network, sharing his insights and knowledge of the game. His understanding of football, combined with his charismatic personality, made him a recognizable figure in sports media.
